Lasciate Ogne Speranza, Voi Ch'intrate
Wearied after a dozen fortnights of toil, I had come to the point of exhaustion. The seemingly endless expanse had drained what stores of vigor were left within me. Yet, even as I lay defeated, a ray of light gave me new hope, a new expansion on the horizon. "As the flowers, bent down and closed, by the night’s cold, erect themselves, all open, on their stems, when the sun shines on them, so I rose from weakened courage: and so fine an ardour coursed through my heart, that I began to speak, like one who is freed:" This new frontier has filled my heart with such desire, by what has been promised, to go forward, that I have turned back to my first purpose.
I began my journey anew with a fresh zeal, ready to surpass the obstacles before me, and yet, as I neared my promised destination and my eyes drank in what was in store, a new sense of foreboding consumed my thoughts. At the gate of my next adventure, written at its summit, in a dark color, I read:
"Through me the way is to the city dolent;
Looking to my companions, there was only one thing to be said, "Here, all uncertainty must be left behind: all cowardice must be dead." For when we enter the gate, not even the powers above can alter our fate. ~Dante Alighieri (Bastardized)
As TMO waves goodbye to the beaten and battered planes and the grueling dungeons buried around Norrath, we can’t help but be excited for the new adventures that lie ahead. For many of us, Gates of Discord is remembered as a grueling and unforgiving expansion from 2004. A time when monsters were so powerful that the only way to progress, even in a group setting, was to fight fire with fire by charming mobs in the same zone to act as both the tank and dps. For others, Gates of Discord is a brand new frontier of exciting raid, group, and quest content.
The extended expansion time around PoP and LDON has allowed Phinigel’s population to farm Plane of Time for several months and outfit entire raid forces with endgame gear. The Mystic Order is included in that number. Looking to the future, we are hopeful that raiding in GoD will look very different than it did in the days of old.
A few TMO updates:
For now, we have closed recruitment for official raiding positions as we’re still hovering slightly over the newly lowered raid cap of 54 players. We will revisit and revise our recruitment policies a few weeks into GoD as we see spots and weaknesses in the raid composition. As always though, Friends & Family are welcome to join TMO!
With the raiding mechanics of Everquest taking a sharp turn in difficulty with the advent of Gates of Discord, we have raised the requirements for raiding position promotions and main swap requests of our current members. The new requirements bump minimum level to 65, approx 100AAs, and a gear set roughly equivalent of elemental planes gear. These requirements are subjective benchmarks based on many factors that include raid attendance % (for main swaps), the desired/need of the class, and open raiding positions & composition at that time.
